Visit to the Old Royal Naval College and meal at the Trafalgar Tavern
Tuesday 24 January 2023
Some thirty members and guests had a very informative visit and guided tour of the Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich. They learnt about the fascinating history of the development of the site over the last 500 years from when it was Greenwich Palace and then its life as both a Royal Hospital and a Royal Naval College. Their guides gave insights into the iconic Painted Hall, known as the ‘UK’s Sistine Chapel’ and they spent time in the St Peter & St Paul Chapel to find out why it is considered to be one of the finest 18th century interiors in existence.
After the visit, they then took the short walk to the Trafalgar Tavern on the banks of the River Thames where they took in amazing views of the glittering skyline of the City of London. They dined well and enjoyed good fellowship in the very comfortable restaurant with its sparkling chandeliers.
